A major strength of the LTU AI IH is the solid basis of research on fundamental problems in AI oriented around the aforementioned applications. Our research in machine learning, deep learning, pattern recognition, signal processing, mathematical statistics, autonomous systems, unsupervised learning, neuromorphic computing, computer graphics, resource-efficient computing and business model innovation is published in top international AI journals and conferences. It paves the way to new innovations, new collaboration and business models, and the development of more human-like AI.
Our Applied AI activities connect research about learning, decision making, big data analytics, edge computing, smart machines, maintenance, critical infrastructure, automation, robotics, control, and cybersecurity research fields that are needed to create the AI ecosystem. This ecosystem will build on innovative business models that will boost the current learning practices and the innovations for improved efficiency, productivity, safety, health, gaming, and the general quality of life. Our needs-tailored AI-focused educational programs are the key to boosting the AI competences and enabling AI innovations. We provide world-class education and and life-long learning in theory and application, introduce novel interdisciplinary education areas, and showcase best practices in all topics of AI, including ethics, machine learning, deep learning, performance optimization of learning, and neuro-inspired computing. Our efforts include improving and leveraging the digitized education itself by introducing novel teaching, learning, and gamification paradigms for children and adults.
