Sea squirts is a bag-like organism belonging to the vertebrate animals. They live on plant plankton and purify the garden on nitrogen and phosphorus, but they also have the unique property of being the only known non-plant source for cellulose. Ulrika Rova, Professor of Biochemical Process Engineering at Luleå University of Technology, talks about new technologies developed to use the outer shell of seafarers to manufacture bioethanol, equivalent to fifty percent of the annual demand for ethanol in Sweden.
