Heritagisation and structural change of urban environments

Published: 9 May 2018

The purpose of this pilot study is to investigate the heritagisation processes of built environments, how historic environments are affected of structural changes, and how this affects the long-term conservation possibilities of urban heritage.

The overall aim is to have a more informed urban planning practice, which enables conservation of significant built heritage. The study will be performed by combining the theoretical frameworks of heritagisation and urban morphology, in studying four complex, historic urban landscapes in northern Sweden, which all are affected by urbanisation, mining industry etc.

The project is a collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and Piteå museum.

The project is funded by the Swedish National Heritage Board.
