Agatino Rizzo appointed Adviser to the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale

Published: 14 January 2021

Agatino Rizzo, professor in architecture at Luleå University of Technology, has been appointed to the advisory board of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The Venice Biennale is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world.

"The first International Art Exhibition was organized in 1895. In the 1930s new festivals were added (Music, Cinema, and Theatre). In 1980 the first International Architecture Exhibition took place, followed by Dance in 1999", says Agatino Rizzo.

Each country, or group of countries, displays in a custom pavilion located in the Giardini. Other sites in Venice are the Arsenale and city centre. The Nordic pavilion, designed by Sverre Fehn, houses the national representation of Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

The theme of the Italian Pavilion (curated by prof. Alessandro Melis) is Resilient Communities. Back in 2019, Agatino participated to the launch of the "chart for resilient communities" in Peccioli, Italy. The week event saw the participation of architecture experts from around the world.

"The Biennale will open, with one year delay due to the ongoing pandemic, during 22.05 - 21.11 2021", says Agatino Rizzo.
