Granted to study the fishing communities along Tornio River

Meet Stefano Tornieri from the University of Venice in Italy. He will spend some time with the Arctic Five Chair of Architecture and Planning in research group in architecture at Luleå University of Technology.

What is Your background?

– I took the PhD in architectural composition in 2015 at University Iuav of Venice and am registered architect in Venice since 2011. During the doctoral studies I have been Visiting Fellow at CEAU (study center architecture and urbanism) at FAUP University of Porto and now I am Research Fellow at IR.IDE (Infrastructure Research Integral Design environment) at University Iuav of Venice.

Tell us a little about Your research?

– My Post-doc research concerns the design of territories of transition, margin and river mouth, wetlands, lagoons. My current research focuses on architecture and landscape generated by the fish cultivation such as fisheries, aquaculture systems, fishing communities. The aim is to understand conflicts and design strategies to integrate traditional systems and new technologies.

What will You work with in Luleå?

"I’m at Luleå University of Technology with the Lerici Foundation cooperation grant to study the fishing communities along Tornio River as a part of the Arctic Five Chair of Architecture and Planning at LTU", says Stefano Tornieri.
