Bioconversion of recalcitrant polysaccharides by novel oxidative biocatalysts

Published: 3 October 2017

VR 2015-2018

Although a number of technical breakthroughs have been achieved during the last decade, some key scientific issues, especially concerning the efficient enzymatic cellulose hydrolysis, still remain to be solved. Among the goals of the current project are the isolation and characterization of novel biocatalysts that allow for efficient liquefaction and saccharification of lignocellulose.

The aim of this project is to create basic knowledge on oxidizing enzymatic reactions to degrade and modify cellulose suitable for potential industrial uses including processes that have a higher added values than in energy production and other present uses. Swedish research and industry are presently among the forerunners in developing lignocellulosic bioethanol.
