Period of internship: February 2016-December 2017

I have studied Microbiology at University in Ljubljana (Biotechnical faculty) and received my Master’s degree in Microbiology in 2017. After I finished my laboratory work for master thesis, I was presented with the opportunity to do an internship at Biochemical Process Engineering at Luleå University of Technology (LTU). I started my internship in February 2016, where I worked on various projects to produce fuels and chemicals from microbial cell factories. I have soon noticed that things here are more relaxed and all colleagues at work were friendly, always willing to help you and although you were an intern, they have treated me as an equal.

The internship in LTU gave me tremendous experiences in laboratory; it showed me the real side of world of science, which although sometimes things didn´t go according to the plan there was always a solution for the problem. It also thought me to develop critical thinking, and most importantly of being flexible and not intimidated in getting involved in new and challenging topics.

During internship I was given a lot of freedom to work independently, but you could always relay on any kind of help, especially from my supervisor. Not only did internship help me to improve my skills in laboratory, it also helped me significantly on improving my English language skills.
