Published: 31 October 2022

The Royal Skytteanska Society Award in 2022 has been given to a prominent researcher at Luleå University of Technology, Oisik Das, working in the research subject Structural Engineering. The diploma will be given at Luleå University of Technology´s annual academic celebration this fall.

"i'm very honored," says Oisik Das, researcher in Structural Engineering at Luleå University of Technology.

Motivation of the jury

Oisik Das is a young researcher with an impressive track record. Das is employed at the subject Structural Engineering at Luleå University of Technology. He completed his PhD in 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand. After his defense, he has developed a wide network of contacts through postdoc stays in China and at KTH. He is also a visiting teacher in Hungary. Oisik Das's research is primarily focused on fire-resistant building materials, but he has also contributed to developments in other areas connected to fire safety, including in AI, research on mechanical properties of FRP composites (fiber reinforced composites), fire properties of additively manufactured materials, methods for graphene production for use as fire retardants in biocomposites, as well as in the circular material economy.

Oisik Das has published nearly 70 scientific articles
as well as numerous other types of publications. In addition to research, Das has also been very active in teaching, both in terms of courses and supervision. During the fall of 2021, he has taken the main responsibility for the courses in fire dynamics given for the fire engineering program at Luleå University of Technology. He has been assistant supervisor for two doctoral students and supervisor for several bachelor's and master theses. Overall, we find that Oisik Das is very suitable to be awarded the Scythian Society's prize in 2022 to outstanding young researchers at Luleå University of Technology.
