Decision model for reversed logistics within industrial manufacturing

Mattias Sjöblad Hofacker has in his master thesis done a case study of weather protection of 3D-volumes.

Weather protection is an important process in the industrialized construction of apartment volumes. The report investigates the current weather protection solution and analyses alternative methods for how apartment volumes should be protected, from storage at the construction site and factory area to transport towards construction site.

In order to highlight important criteria in the recommendation of the most suited weather protection solution, a decision model was developed with aid of theories from the field of reverse logistics, where mainly driving forces for implementation of reverse logistics were analysed. The theoretical criteria were then analysed further based on interviews, process mapping and observations in order to review how well adapted these were to reality.
"The focus has been to develop criteria that concern economic and environmental aspects through dialogue with the company and their wishes", says Mattias who studied at Luleå University of Technology.

The decision model was then used to make a recommendation to the company in the study. The result of the work showed that the model could be used where several different potential improvement areas are presented in the report, for example deeper analysis of most of the criteria. "I think the project has been very fun and rewarding to perform thanks to being able to work with a reality-based problem, where my developed knowledge from my studies has been tested”, Mattias concludes.
