Education and current work

I have a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, a Higher Diploma in Building and Construction Engineering specializing in Computer-Aided Structural Design of Buildings, and an M. Tech. in Construction Technology and Management from NITK Surathkal, India. Since 2014, I have been a PhD student at LTU.

The main topic of my doctoral research is using simulation, machine learning, and optimization techniques in upstream (i.e. specifically in earthmoving operations) road and infrastructure projects in order to provide tools to assess the environmental impacts in the early planning stage of projects, and also to demonstrate ideas that can lead to the mitigation of these impacts.

Personal experiences

Between 2002 and 2007, I worked in different national construction companies in Iraq as a site engineer, site manager, quality control engineer, and as a member of an engineering consultant office that worked to build the multi-story commercial and residential buildings, which were typically built of concrete structure with brick-walls and/or gypsum board. In addition, I supervised the construction of water treatment and supply projects, and rural road projects.

I started my academic work in 2006 in the Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering in Babylon University, teaching second year engineering students in the concrete, and fluid mechanics laboratories and, subsequently, I taught engineering management to third year students. In addition, I supervised two graduation projects for five students.

Research interests

  • Simulation and optimization in construction projects.
  • Energy efficiency and the environmental impact of the construction projects.
  • Life cycle assessment of infrastructure projects.
  • Automation in construction operations.
  • Visualization in construction operations.
