The Master Programme Green Networking and cloud computing has been approved under the EU's Erasmus+. The students will spend the first semester at the Université de Lorraine and take courses in computer networking and sustainable development. The second semester will take place at Leeds Beckett University and includes courses in software, green IT, data science and smart systems.
– The students will come to Luleå University of Technology in Skellefteå for their third semester, says Karl Andersson, Associate Professor of Pervasive and Mobile Computing and Faculty Programme Director.
– Here we address resource-efficient distributed computer systems. During the fourth semester, the students write their exam thesis, either at one of the partner universities or at one of our associate partners, such as Ericsson, Infovista or Tieto.
Digitization and sustainability
The new programme is based on the experience of a previously successful program: Pervasive Computing and Communications for Sustainable Development. Ten of the programme's alumni have started working at Ericsson and three have become PhD students Luleå University of Technology.
– It proofs that the programme has been an important recruitment base and matched well with the labor market, says Karl Andersson.
– Now we are modernizing that programme and making adjustments to more cloud computing. We combine two trends – digitalization and sustainability – and hence creates a unique and important combination.
The first students are expected to be admitted in autumn 2020, and thus will arrive to Luleå University of Technology, in 2021.
