PERCCOM is one of the university's international collaborative programmes at master's level with an emphasis on IT for a sustainable development. The programme is given in collaboration with the universities in Nancy in France and Lappeenranta in Finland. Each year, the programme finishes with a summer school at one of the partner universities, and this year it was Luleå University of Technology's turn to host the event.
For four intensive days, students and staff were invited to a solid programme of scientific, technical, social, and cultural events. In addition, 17 exam theses were presented and three keynotes held. Also, the students got to meet companies, both during traditional guest lectures, and at session of speed dating.
– Since many students are looking for jobs right now, it was important to give our business partners the opportunity to introduce themselves and meet the students individually, says Karl Andersson, Associate Professor of Pervasive and Mobile Computing at Luleå University of Technolog and koordinator for PERCCOM,
One day there was a full-day excursion by bus to Northvol's upcoming battery factory in Skellefteå, Skellefteå's first hydropower plant in Finnfors, Storforsen and the Arctic Circle, and a final visit to the research data center Boden Type Datacenter.
– We also got a very initiated welcome by Skellefteå municipality's marketing manager Helena Renström who told us about everything that is going on in the municipality right now. I think we should be very proud of our collaboration with the municipality and all the support we receive from them, Karl Andersson concludes.
