Grid impact of energy-efficient lighting
The replacement of incandescent lamps by compact fluorescent lamps and LED lamps will result in significant energy savings. However, the same replacement may have adverse effects on the low-voltage network. Measurements and calculations have been performed to study those effects, especially where it concerns reactive power, losses in the grid, and waveform distortion. Some of the conclusions from the project were that the impact of waveform distortion is expected to be limited. Above 1 kHz, resonances could possibly result in problems and the phenomena will be studied in further detail in continuation projects.
