Great need for well educated engineers

Published: 3 March 2014

In june 2014 the first students in the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Power Engineering programme are graduating. This unique bachelor distance learning programme was initiated by the electric power industry and started in collaboration with the three northernmost universities - Luleå University of Technology, Mid Sweden University and Umeå University.

Mats Näsström, Head Faculty Programme Director at the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics, Luleå University of Technology:

- Cooperation with the electric power industry is important, especially with the increasing lack of electric power engineers through high retirement, which means that the need for well educated engineers strongly increases. As this is a distance learning programme it is possible to study in their home municipality which helps companies to  find qualified engineers in other places than university cities.
