Investigate the contribution of forest biomass conversion technologies to electricity systems with high shares of intermittent renewables
Focus on how biomass can be used to handle extreme meteorological events in those systems
Integrated modeling approach developed and used to analyse:
– How can we correctly model the temporal and spatial component of the problem?
– How can computational feasibility best be balanced with accuracy of results?
– Which extreme events have to be expected in the system?
– Which elements of the biomass sector can best serve as sources of flexibility?
