– I am happy that Luleå University of Technology now has taken another step forward in the good cooperation with Nanjing Tech University. The program will strengthen our joint research and facilitates future collaboration, says Headmaster Johan Sterte, Luleå University of Technology.
Cooperation will provide more and better research
– The programme is designed to consolidate current research collaborations and facilitate new. There will also be a benefit to the individual research groups as well as the University at large. We expect more students, more high-quality publications, and better conditions for applying for research funding, says Xiaoyan Ji, associate professor at Energy Engineering, Luleå University of Technology.
It was when Xiaoyan Ji began at LTU in 2008 the collaboration between the University and Nanjing started. Over the years, the cooperation has been strengthened and the parties are working among others in a joint project funded by Vinnova (see article below). It is largely thanks to Xiaoyans efforts that the agreement now has become a reality.
The programme is open to all graduate students at Luleå University of Technology and it means they will take dual doctorates, Swedish and Chinese. In the first year, four PhD-students are expected to start in the programme.
– The PhD-students will have access to the skills and the resources available at both universities. The Swedish doctoral students do not have to learn Chinese, they can use English, says Xiaoyan Ji.
Those who will coordinate the program from LTU's side is Assistant Professor Xiaoyan Ji and Professors Marcus Öhman (Energy Engineering), Roland Larsson (Machine elements) and Staffan Lundström (Fluid mechanics).
