In media: Stores are closing in rural areas

Published: 5 November 2013

Since the mid-1990s, have rural areas depopulated more and more. Due to this have many stores been forced to close down. But Håkan Ylinenpää, professor at Luleå University of Technology believes in a future solution.

– I think we will be going against a trend where more people are choosing shared accommodation. One may live abroad during the winter and in Norrbotten during the summer, says Håkan Ylinenpää to SVT Nordnytt.

– This may result in service centres in the small villages in the county. In the service centres will people have access to a cooling or some form of storage where regular bus leaves of orders.
