The course consists of two parts, about three days per occasion, consisted of lectures and field trips. Lectures have been given with an interdisciplinary approach, where teachers from different backgrounds yielded fruitful presentations at how good dam safety is achieved. This has, inter alia, focused on legal aspects, authorities perspective and assessment, contingency planning and guidance in dam safety work. Although technical issues such as dammbyggnads- and deposition methods, hydrology and avbördning, and instrumentation and monitoring have been taken up and given good discussions between teachers and students.
Within the course, participants performed a project task, with a view to applying the things that arose during the course. All participants showed well-executed work.
The first part of the course was held in September at Dundret in Gällivare. This was performed two visits, one at LKAB's facility Vitåfors in Malmberget and one of Boliden's facility at Aitik. During the second occasion in Garpenberg held a study of Boliden Ryllshyttemagasin. All visits have been fruitful and gave good insight into each facility's dam safety work.
The next course is scheduled for the fall of 2015.
