High-speed rolling

In hot rolling the production rate is limited by the speed in the final roll pair where the temperature rise caused by the plastic working sometimes can melt the material. For optimising of the process advanced numeric simulation is needed and therefore material properties of good quality are needed for the temperatures and the strain rates involved.

A Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar has been equipped with an induction heater and tests are performed at strain rates of magnitude 100-1000 s-1 and temperatures up to 1200 ºC. A number of materials selected by cooperating industries will be tested.


The project started 2010 in cooperation with MEFOS and is financed by Jernkontoret.
