PELLETS - Mechanical behaviour and critical loading of pellets in handling and storage systems

The aim of this project is developing simulation models describing the mechanical loading of iron ore pellets in handling and storing systems.


Material models for iron ore pellets are carried out from experiment. Important material properties are the deformation behaviour during loading and a critical load measure. Simulation methods used in the project are finite element method (FEM) and smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). The final goal with the simulation models is to predict critical loading of iron ore pellets in the handling chain. The simulation models should be possible to use as a tool when developing and optimizing storing and transportation systems for iron ore pellets

The project is a PhD project at the University of Technology in Luleå (LTU) in collaboration with the Swedish mining company LKAB. The project is founded by Hjalmar Lundbohm Research Centre (HLRC).
