Voting rights 100 years - a decision worth celebrating

May 24 1919, the Swedish Parliament took the first real decision to introduce equal voting rights. – It was an important democratic breakthrough, which meant that women were given political voting rights for the first time, says Josefin Rönnbäck, researcher in history at Luleå University of Technology.

Today, December 17, the Swedish Parliament begins the celebration of democracy breakthrough in Sweden. Josefin Rönnbäck, researcher in history at Luleå University of Technology, is interviewed by Sveriges Radio.

Promotes prominent women in new lexicon

Why are there so few women artists, philosophers, scientists, politicians, and authors? Or is this idea more based on inadequate documentation of women's actions? One important reason is that the writing of history is based on existing biographical dictionaries, where the principle of selection is gender-biased, and women are therefore underrepresented. Now, these, to our history so significant women, get a new chance through a special on-line Biographical Dictionary of Swedish Women (SWO).
