Luleå University of Technology studies non-profit organizations' innovative solutions to societal challenges.

Civil society innovation in the wake of societal challenges

The research includes mapping and analysis of examples of innovations developed by civil society organizations in Sweden. For example, The Leisure Bank for free lending of sports and leisure items. The results are presented in this research article.

Social innovation in the civil society working life

The research studies include mapping and analysis of innovative efforts by non-profit organizations to include under-represented and disadvantaged groups in working life. An example is Universally Designed Workplaces, that design workplaces that work for everyone, regardless of differences in functional ability, competence or otherwise. More info can be found here.

Social innovation in the Church of Sweden

The research studies include mapping and analysis of social innovations developed within the parishes, dioceses and church offices of the Church of Sweden. An example is St Mary, which is an activity for work training and practice in parishes. Another example is the network The Future Lives with Us, that renews the activities of the Church in multi-religious and multicultural neighborhoods. More information can be found here.
