Gender equal regional development

Published: 25 March 2018

Luleå University of Technology studies and supports development processes for gender equal and sustainable development in regions, based on previous research on gendered patterns and gender equality efforts.

In Sweden, efforts are being made for equal regional development by municipalities, regions, government and other actors in society. This includes, among other things, political strategies and practical initiatives in business development, labor market, education and other areas. All regions in Sweden have drawn up action plans for equal regional growth and several municipalities have signed the European CEMR declaration.

Luleå University of Technology contributes with scientific knowledge support in the implementation of the action plans and declaration. Knowledge support is for example provided to Region Norrbotten's implementation of the regional action plan for equal regional growth. Another example is knowledge support to Norrbotten's Municipalities' implementation of the CEMR declaration.

The knowledge support means that researchers and societal actors jointly develop new insights regarding how sustainable change can be achieved, in the light of previous research in relevant areas. This is achieved through continuous analyzes and discussions about the experiences gained during the process.
