The now 45-year-old Åsa Wallström moved from Boden in 1990 to study economics at Luleå University of Technology and proceeded on a one-year master's program. After graduating, she received an offer to work as a teacher, went on to PhD studies and received her doctor’s degree in 2002 – all the time with marketing as the main thread.
To take on new challenges and a willingness to develop are strong driving forces. Åsa Wallström has served in the PhD Students Association, various election committees, and the employment committee. She has been a Chaired Professor, Head of Division and now Head of Department.
– I like to try to see how things can be better and to work in the long term. It's fun to work with strategic issues.
– We have highly skilled personnel in the department and I feel that we have a positive atmosphere. It is also part of this mission, to build a department where people have fun together and develop.
How would you describe your leadership?
– I try to be clear, positive, and see the possibilities. I want to be a good listener, try to understand and build trust. I want people to feel that they can come to me with different issues.
