Chemical technology

We develop membranes, adsorbents and catalysts to reduce energy use in the chemical industry and enable competitive production from renewable raw materials.

We also work with basic materials studies and process development to improve the quality of chemical products. We strongly contribute to The Master Programme in Sustainable Process Engineering..
The subject has since 1994 produced 20 doctoral dissertations and now consists of about 10 senior researchers and as many graduate students.

Innovators of the Year 2022

The award Student Innovator of the year at Luleå University of Technology 2022 goes to Sofie Zätterqvist who developed "Don't be an asshole brewery" and created a creative concept for alcohol-free beer with the aim to challenge, educate and engage young people around gender and (in)equality. The Research Prize goes to Professor Jonas Hedlund for an innovation with the potential to become an important piece of the puzzle for the green transition.

Innovator employee of the year 2022

Jonas Hedlund, Professor and Researcher in Chemical Technology at Luleå University of Technology, has received the Innovator of the year 2022 award. Jonas Hedlund's research on zeolite membranes that may e.g. be used for purification of biogas to vehicle gas saves energy and reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
