Call for Preparatory Project Proposals on Natural Construction Materials Sector OUTCOME

Following NordMin call for preparatory project proposals on Natural Construction Materials sector and the evaluation of submitted proposals by NordMin Steering Committee, the preparatory project (PP) “Sustainable Stone Industry in the Northern communities” has been granted 200.000DKK in order to submit in Autumn 2015, a project proposal application to Northern Periphery and Arctic 2014-2020 Programme (NPA), addressing mainly Priority 2- Promoting Entrepreneurship to Realize the Potential of the Program Area’s Competitive Advantage, contributing to objective of the program: Improved support systems tailored for start-ups and existing SMEs in remote and sparsely populated areas, contributing to program result indicators of Conditions for start-ups and awareness of business opportunities beyond local markets.

The project aims to point out new business possibilities, to enhance the eco-efficient utilization of natural resources for the development of local industry based on local work force tackling the logistic issues since the distances from production sites to the final use are long affecting the profitability.

The partners of the PP project representing expertise from the Nordic natural stone industry through the national stone association, company participation as well as broad research competence through national research centers and the research organizations from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Greenland/Denmark and Scotland, are: the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) (PP coordinator), the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), the Swedish Cement and Concrete Research Institute (CBI), the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU), the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), SINTEF Building and Infrastructure, the Swedish Stone Industries Federation, the Finnish Natural Stone Association, Palin Granit Oy, the British Geological Survey and Historic Scotland.
