High temperature tribological research activities are continously increasing all around the world. With global mega-trends such as sustainable development and resource efficiency affecting all industrial sectors, this often results in demands for increased productivity and performance. To meet such demands, new products and processes are of required to have higher energy efficiency and power density. These requirements lead to high operating temperatures for systems found in aerospace, mineral handling, metal working, power generation and automotive applications. The focus of high temperature tribology research is becoming more diverse with growing activites related to non-ferrous materials, modelling/simulation and exotic surface coatings and lubricants for effective friction and wear control at high temperatures.

The upcoming workshop is the fourth in a series of successful High Temperature Tribology Workshops held at Luleå University of Technology. The workshop is now jointly organised by Luleå University of Technology and Austrian Excellence Center for Tribology, two of the leading research groups in high temperature tribology.

As before, the main aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practicing technologists in the field to interact and exchange their latest research findings in this challenging research area. Workshop topics includes: high temperature friction and wear mechanisms and modelling; lubrication at elevated temperatures; tribological materials and surface modification technologies to control friction and wear at high temperatures; tribotesting and all other related issues.

We warmly invite all fellow researchers to contribute and actively participate in this 4th Workshop on High temperature Tribology. Your contribution in the form of an article or case study on any topic relevant to the Workshop theme will be highly appreciated.

The workshop will be held at Luleå University of Technology, Campus Luleå, in building E. Recommended entrances are E7 or E10 which are closest to room E632.


Contributions to the workshop, which include the title, names of authors and their affiliation and a brief synopsis of the contribution should be submitted to Dr. Jens Hardell by November 30, 2018.
