Tribology of dry contacts

Published: 27 March 2009

This course covers the tribological conditions in a dry contact.

After completion of the course the participants will be able to:
- understand the difference between plastic and elastic contact
- understand the mechanisms of friction and when the different mechanismsdominate
- understand the relations between friction and wear
- discuss and interpret friction curves from lab tests
- discuss the significance of surface transformations on the friction and wear behaviour
- describe the most important mechanisms of wear and surface deterioration
- discuss possible failure criteria in relation to wear of different tribological applications
