Jan Sandström honorary doctorate at Umeå University

Published: 20 June 2018

Jan Sandström, Professor at Luleå University of Technology, is one of three new honorary doctorates at Umeå University.

– It feels absolutely amazing. Such a thing is nothing that you can affect yourself, but there are others who think I did good things for Umeå and Västerbotten so it feels of course very fun. An honor that I did not dare imagine, says Jan Sandström, saying that it feels extra special to be appointed honorary doctorate in Umeå.

– I have my roots in Västerbotten and in many ways Umeå is the city of my dreams, even though my family left Västerbotten for Stockholm during my childhood. I have also worked a lot with the Norrlandsoperan, says the happy honorary doctor who today lives in Luleå.

Other honorary doctorates at Umeå University 2018 are: Jacqueline Van Gent, Associate Professor in History at the University of Western Australia and Nancy Hornberger, Professor of Educational Science and Program Manager for Educational Linguistics at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania.
