In late 2011, Luleå University of Technology recieved research grants from the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU) for the project "The Economic Value of Geological Information." In September 2012, the project started when Elisabeth Häggquist began her doctoral work in economics.
The project is multi-disciplinary in that it combines competences from economics and the geosciences. The scientific focus is on the economic valuation of a public good, i.e., geological information, but the economics expertise needs to be complemented by in-depth knowledge about the use of this information.
In this page you can read more about the project and the ongoing sub-study about actual and potential use of geological information in Swedish municipalities.
