Sustainable conversion of the energy system
The research project "A sustainable transformation of the energy system towards an increased proportion of bioenergy" focuses on biorefinancies and on the conversion to a bio-based economy.
The project is interdisciplinary and structured around three interrelated PhD projects: (1) markets and price determination; (2) technologies and value chains, and (3) location and industrial change. The overall systems perspective is based on the importance of biomass in the transition to a sustainable energy system in general, and to the efficient and sustainable spatial resource use and production, and to increased product value chains, in particular. The focus is on biorefineries and the transition towards a bioeconomy. A spatial approach is applied in combination with energy system analysis, technical development potentials and industrial applications linked with the supply of biological feed-stock and market and policy aspects. The objectives are to: (1) contribute to the provision of skills and the development of systems analysis research in Sweden and (2) contribute with new knowledge to the sustainable transformation of the Swedish energy system.
