The project covers all the research and actions needed to reach the final goal of a sustainable self-sufficient peripheral arctic community. This is achieved by combining the possibilities of local renewable energy use, smart grid solutions and energy storage into operating models to be evaluated also from the business perspective. Technical research is still needed in the field of energy conversion and energy storage in arctic circumstances.
The project is a collaboration between the Economics Unit and Energy Engineering at Luleå University of Technology as well as with six other partners in Finland and Norway. It will run until June 2018.
