Nursing in emergency care and intensive care

The area focus on how it is to suffer from acute severe illness or trauma and on interventions, that can improve well-being and reducing suffering, during and after the person has been cared for in the emergency care.

There are ongoing studies on how acute illness or trauma affect the person affected, based on concepts and theories such as transition, preservation of dignity, suffering, hope, meaning and sense of coherence. The perspectives of the ill person's relatives and the specialist nurse are also studied.
With the aim to clarify what improvements can be made in the nursing care, the person's experiences of undergoing surgery and then are cared for in the ICU, alternative postoperative unit, are also studied.
