Promoting health and learning throughout life
The health promotion perspective means promoting, highlighting, making visible and making space for good health, regardless of whether the person is healthy or not. Learning is closely linked to good health. Lifelong learning is thus a health-promoting factor for sustainable health. Research in pedagogy is important to promote lifelong learning.
Health promotion is the process of enabling people to take greater control over their own health in order to improve it. This health promotion approach, where health is more than the absence of disease, focuses on health-enhancing factors.
Promoting health across the lifespan is based on people's healthy start in life and then their own ability and support to maintain good health throughout their lives.
Research shows that health and learning are strongly intertwined, completed education, such as completed upper secondary education, is one of the most important protective factors for promoting health and good living conditions. The research carried out involves senior researchers as well as doctoral students and advanced students.
