Teachers establish contacts with Antigua

Published: 29 October 2015

Birgitta Lindberg and Carina Lomgren, teachers at the Nursingprogramme, will in early November travel on a MFS, Minor Field Studies, scholarship to Antigua in the Caribbean. The purpose of the trip is to create new relationships and enhance opportunities for scholarship students to do fieldworks.

– It is important and enriching for both students and teachers to establish contacts with a country, which has different conditions than we are used to here in Sweden, says Birgitta Lindberg, Senior Lecturer in Nursing.

Last spring, the nursing students Victoria Bergqvist and Henrietta Stridsman Möller went on a MFS scholarship to Antigua, to collect material for their thesis. This trip opened up for further cooperation between Luleå University of Technology and the University of Antigua. Now the idea is to  develop this cooperation further.

The first step in a long process

– This trip is a first step in a long process. We believe that this collaboration is important from an environmental scanning perspective, especially in these times. Also to be able to highlight cultural differences and different economic conditions based on the nursing profession, says Senior Lecturer Birgitta Lindberg.

– Our hope is to eventually enable teacher exchanges, and in the future we hope that this cooperation will result in student exchanges, says Carina Lomgren, Lecturer in Nursing.

The trip lasts for ten days and during that time they will blog about their experiences and thoughts. See the link below to their blog.
