The first in Sweden to receive the new ELW diploma in laser welding and laser hybrid welding.

Published: 9 April 2018

On the 7th of March, the first group of seven participants was examined in the new EWF course "Laser Welding and Laser Hybrid Welding".

Laser welding and laser hybrid welding are highly productive joining methods for the modern manufacturing industry. The method replaces increasingly conventional welding methods such as MIG / MAG, TIG, resistance and electron beam welding.

The European Welding Federation (EWF) has developed a laser welding and laser hybrid welding course  (European Laser Welding, ELW) that Luleå University of Technology is the only one to provide in Swedish. Professor Alexander Kaplan, Chairperson of Manufacturing Systems Engineering, is responsible for the course given in collaboration with the Swedish Welding commission. The participants in the course will receive an international diploma, the ELW diploma, which guarantees high quality education.

Business participants from Oskarshamn in the south to Luleå in the north participated in the EWF course as on three occasions and a total of 8 days of mixed theory with internship at the Luleå University of Technology High Performance Laser Lab.
