Jetro Pocorni - ICALEO laureate

Published: 4 May 2015

Jetro Pocorni, PhD student at the Department, received at the ICALEO Conference in 2014 the price for second best publication and presentation among graduate students in the competition "ICALEO 2014 Student Paper Award Contest". The title of the publication is: "Differences in Cutting Efficiency Between CO2 and Fiber Lasers When Cutting Mild and Stainless Steel".

Jetro´s paper investigates the effect of material type, material thickness, laser wavelength and laser power on the efficiency of the cutting process for industrial state-of-the-art cutting machines (manufactured by Bystronic). The cutting efficiency is defined in its most basic terms: as the area of cut edge created per Joule of laser energy.  The paper involves a discussion of both theoretical and practical engineering issues which affect the cutting efficiency.

The award was Dr.-Ing Stefan Kaierle.
