Simon Matti on Fokus top-100 list

Published: 11 October 2019

Simon Matti, professor of Political Science at Luleå University of Technology, is ranked 94th when the magazine Fokus listed the 100 most productive and cited researchers in Sweden within Environmental Science and Green Biology.

How does it feel to be on the list?
– I’m obviously glad, because it it an indication on that my research is recieving attention and is disseminated to a wider research community. Citations usually mean that your peers perceive something to be an important contribution to the field.

What does this mean to you?
– There are many different rankings and of course they should always be interpreted with some caution. But it is certainly better to be on such a list, than not to be. Especially as many other political- and social scientists who are active in the broad field of environmental research are not included. I think it shows the strength of our university's long-standing environmental social science research profile. We have some of Sweden's absolutely leading researchers focused on environmental, natural resource, and energy issues at the Department of Social Sciences, whose research is continuously making impact both inside and outside academia. That certainly is something well worth more attention.
