In media: Members of Parliament absent when voting

Published: 23 October 2012

"A Member of Parliament has a great responsibility, not only for themselves or the party but for the Swedish policy in general". This says Simon Matti, Political Scientist at Luleå University of Technology, in a statement to the local newspaper.

– Members of Parliament who sit in the house the whole legislature get stamped that they are not in contact with reality. To anchor the decisions among voters one have to be out there and meet people. At the same time, it leads to absence from the parliament. They are elected and that includes to be present in the voting, says Simon Matti.
