Example of the flow field in a model of a rotary kiln. Instantaneous snapshot from CFD-simulations and PIV-measurements respectively

Swirl from a water turbine cone at different relative speeds between the cone and the fluid.

Measurements performed on the turbine rig at Vattenfall Research and Development in Älvkarleby

Common for the projects is that the scale is relatively large and it is therefore of interest to study the effect of the scale on overall flow fields and the modelling of them. Main areas of applications are hydropower and mining industries. A general methodology is to first focus on details and then the flow through larger systems of components as well as the interaction with solid components.
