Scholarship hattrick

Published: 3 June 2010

Three Post-graduate students at the division of Fluid Mechanics have in a short time been rewarded scholarships. Anna-Lena Ljung received the prestigious Folke Odqvist scholarship from the Swedish National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Torbjörn Green is granted funding from Ångepanneföreningen Foundation for Research and Development and Reine Granström is rewarded with a stipend from Bengt Ingeström scholarship fund.

Anna-Lena will use her scholarship to present her work on drying of iron ore pellets at the Third International Conference on Porous Media and its Applications in Science, Engineering and Industry in Italy this summer. Torbjörn received his grants for a three month guest research at Monash University during the winter 2010/2011 to study surface jets. Reine is planning to visit University of Adelaide during spring 2011 to increase his knowledge in the area of combustion. The division of Fluid Mechanics already has some collaboration with both Universities; these stays will open up for more projects in the future.
- "International collaboration is a key factor for success in the scientific society today", says Professor Staffan Lundström, Head of the Division. "These awards to the individual PhD-students give us an even better opportunity for international cooperation. It is not unusual that our PhD-students are awarded for their work, but I cannot recall that three students have been granted within just a few days".
