Roger Johnsson works in the research subject Engineering acoustics with applications in automotive acoustics and building acoustics. The research focuses on sound quality, structural acoustics, measurement methodology, and vibrations. A supervisor gives support and help for PhD students in their education. Roger Johnson has three PhD students who all work with automotive-related research; Winter Tire Noise, Hybrid electric vehicles, and Information and warning sounds in vehicles.
- I was very surprised and happy, says Roger, it´s an oddity that the prices are given to a narrow area such as Engineering acoustics.
One of the PhD students who wrote the citation was Magnus Löfdahl who normally works with research on noise from winter tires.
- Our supervisor Roger Johnson is worth this award by a wide margin, says Magnus.
The jury's citation reads as follows, Professor Roger Johnson is keen to help both graduate students and other employees.. This creates a good working environment and motivation, which is a prerequisite for being able to produce good research. He is competent and committed to the students' work and provide professional guidance as well theoretical issues and practical problems that a student may face during their graduate studies. The phrase "I do not have time" is not in his vocabulary. A supervisor's role is to guide the student through the graduate program. Roger is a great example of how this should be done and he goes beyond what can reasonably be expected of him due to his commitment.
