Master Mozambique

Since 2008, the division of wood technology at Luleå University of Technology has been cooperating with Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) in Maputo, Mozambique within a Sida bilateral program. The main focus lies on capacity building through postgraduate training but also to strengthen the Mozambican education at MSc level.

The Budget of the UEM-Sweden MSc-programme is 41,5 million SEK which will be shared between four different master's degrees programme. Luleå University of Technology together with SLU in Uppsala are responsible for The MSc Programme in Wood Technology. The project will run for three years.

In 2014 the first master's students started their education programme in Mozambique. Staff from Luleå University of Technology and SLU is continuously visiting the UEM for teaching and supervision.

The SIDA financed sub-programme "Improving Wood Utilization in Mozambique" has already attained a total of 3 PhD and 2 Licentiate degrees. In Skellefteå Luis Cristovao defended his Doctoral thesis in December 2013 after doing his research work in Skellefteå at Wood Technology.

Pedro António Ah Shenga  started his licentiate degree in 2013 at Wood Technology in Skellefteå and is due to carry-on with PhD studies.
