Tiin DP 7: Development of wood-based components to the construction

Published: 28 September 2016

Goal
- To develop technology and production methods for cross laminated timber (CLT) with properties significantly better than currently existing solutions on the market.
- To develop a building system for the combination of glulam and CLT and apartment modules.

Background

Society is increasingly demanding far-reaching economic, functional, environmental technical and aesthetic requirements on buildings. As a result, we can nowadays see a number of clear development tendencies that are important for the future development in the timber construction industry:

• A steadily growing interest for the use of wood and processed wood products.

• A willingness to build tall houses with wood as the main constituent

• An increasingly high degree of refinement and optimization of materials and components by combining them into so-called composite or interacting structures and systems.

• An increasingly high degree of prefabrication of different building components to meet the qualitative and economic demands placed on both the input products and the building as a whole.
