- The objective of the installation that we've made is that it will demonstrate the potential of this technology, to eventually be able to build a full-scale plant says Olle Hagman, Professor of Wood Products Engineering at Luleå University of Technology.
With funding from Troedssonfonden and Skellefteå municipality he has, along with graduate student Peter Bomark, built up a small part of a complete Vibe facility. The prototype, installed at the university, has a cost of about 1 million SEK. The construction of the prototype also has participating students studying computer graphics and computer game development.
The technique is a kind of interactive visualization which is based on learning by experience rather than what you read or hear. It is done using a variety of interactive displays mounted in a circle that can be programmed and move in relation to each other and thus give different effects.
The plan is to eventually build a full-fledged center in an old industrial site in Skelleftehamn. A place where industry and creative industries can meet and interact. If funding can be arranged, which means ten times as much money as the prototype, installation can be completed in one to two years.
- In a full-scale plant an environment for education, marketing and development of technology can be created. This allows the wood and metal industries in the region, new opportunities in a whole new way to show both manufacturing and products, says Olle Hagman.
