Günther Leonhardt
Luleå University of Technology
Günther’s research focuses on mathematical modelling of urban drainage systems. Current activities deal with the hydrology of green urban areas and green infrastructure, problems related to stormwater management in cold climates, and include also comprehensive field measurements. The application of methods for model calibration and the analysis of uncertainties is an important emphasis of Günther’s research.
The focus of his PhD (University of Innsbruck, Austria) was the application of models as software sensors in sewer systems and urban catchments. It addressed also issues related to model applications in real time. As a researcher at LTU, Günther conducts projects on stormwater management models, mainly for green urban areas and green infrastructure. Furthermore, he is/was involved in studies and projects on stormwater quality enhancement in grass swales, surface water quality modelling, water footprint assessment and the development of software tools. Beyond urban water management, Günther has experiences in surface water modelling for the purpose of flood risk management and river morphology and ecology.
