Test bed for evaluation of stormwater facilities at HSB Living Lab, Gothenburg (2016 - 2021)

Published: 25 June 2018

The need for technical solutions and new planning methods for climate-proof water treatment is great, especially in urban densely populated areas. At the same time, there are currently no standard requirements and certification methods for water-retardant and purifying products / systems.

A test bed for the evaluation of the operation of stormwater solutions was established at HSB Living Lab in Gothenburg in 2017. The natural-scale test beds offer technology providers of stormwater solutions the possibility to test and develop their products in real-world environments. Examples of technical solutions that can be evaluated in the facility are overland flow areas, skeletal soils, detention reservoir, biofilter, and other filter solutions and filter materials.

The test beds consist of two reservoirs with a total volume of 16 square meters. The reservoirs are dewatered into two sampling manholes where flow meters are installed and measurement data collected continuously. On the roof of HSB Living Lab, a rain gauge is installed for collection of rain data and information about the incoming flow in the reservoir.

The test beds are owned and operated in collaboration between HSB Living Lab, Gothenburg City and RISE. LTU is a partner in this project.
