Full project name: Strategies and Indicators for Mine Safety

The purpose of the project is to improve workplace safety in the mining industry based on practices, strategies and principles gathered from Swedish and international mining companies. The project addresses two areas within the SIP STRIM agenda: the third area “Mining” by contributing to the 2030 vision regarding zero accidents in the industry, and the seventh area “Attractive workplaces” by contributing to the 2030 vision regarding proactive risk control and overall reduction of fatalities. The goal of the project is to develop strategies and proactive indicators aimed at improving safety management and, by extension, contribute to making companies in the industry more attractive employers.

The project focuses on SIP STRIMs short- to medium-term goals by developing methods aimed at managing and controlling the work environment by, e.g., highlighting the safety effects of automation and providing an overview of safety in relation to contractors. The project will contribute to the long-term goals by developing methods focusing on safety management and injury prevention. More specifically, the project will provide a quantitative description of the safety situation in a number of Swedish and international mining companies, a description of the safety-related practices in a select number of companies, and an in-depth analysis of these practices and how they can be systematized in terms of proactive safety strategies and indicators. The results of the project will be disseminated through conference papers and articles in international scientific journals.
