The employers' organization Sveriges byggindustrier is now starting a new facility, a safety park where construction workers should be able to practice working safely to reduce the risk of accidents. Researchers at Luleå University of Technology will survey the safety culture in the construction industry in order to
A survey of the safety culture in the construction industry provides a good basis for safety training at the facility and can contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and a reduced number of work accidents.
Shape security culture
– The number of accidents in the construction industry decreased until about ten years ago, but in recent years, the development has stopped and it has even become worse in some places. We believe it is important to shape a good safety culture in the construction industry, and we will try to do that with the help of the security park, says Jan Johansson, project manager and professor of Human Work Sciences at Luleå University of Technology.
The others who are part of the project are Maria Johansson, PhD student, Leif Berglund, Senior Lecturer, Magnus Nygren, Associate Senior Lecturer and Magnus Stenberg, Senior Lecturer.
Develop the training
The researchers will survey international research in the security field, experiences from other security parks and safety work in the Swedish construction industry. In cooperation with the management of the security park, basic safety principles must then be incorporated into the operations. The project also includes evaluating the results of the training to contribute to its development.
The project runs through November 2022 and is expected to lead to a more common view of the safety culture in the construction industry and an increased knowledge of how to work safely. The results are also expected to help reduce the number of accidents at work and occupational diseases in the construction industry.
