Falun mine, open pit

National program launched

Published: 30 January 2014

Introducing a new research program with an overall objective of contributing to sustainable growth and strengthen the Swedish mining and metallutvinnande industry. Gender, environment, deeper mines, attractive workplaces and efficient enrichment are some of the seven main areas where funding will be advertised.

- Sweden has a very competitive mining industry that is at the forefront when it comes to durability and efficiency, but we can become even better. The Program Mining and Metal extraction will help with this, says Pär Weihed, Professor in Ore Geology at Luleå University of Technology.

VINNOVA, Formas and the Swedish Energy Agency are financing the program, which is one of several of the Government designated areas that are priority strategic areas of innovation. The idea is that industry, government and academia to collaborate for the common priorities of investment in research, development and innovation, thereby reinforcing.

Program Mining and metal extraction is based on the strategic research agenda STRIM that can be read here.
